Discover how to create a home gym for very little money
Surely, if you had never considered preparing a space in your home to turn it into your personal gym, in recent weeks you have rethought it. And if you have not yet started to do it because you are not very clear how to do it, we explain everything you need to adapt your space to exercise with a minimum budget.
Where do I install myself?
Creating an exercise routine at home is a great way both to complement your training if you go for a run or walk, and to start the path to being a little more fit if you have a sedentary lifestyle. The great advantage of having a space to train at home is that it does not take up a lot of time and it becomes more difficult to find excuses not to move.
The first thing you need to do is choose an area of your house that has enough space to do the exercises, and in which you have an extra storage space where you can store the items you need to train. It doesn't have to be a very large area, but we all know that space is often a precious commodity in our homes (especially if we live in a big city). Therefore, a very practical solution to free up a crowded area is to move little-used objects and furniture to a storage room, such as those offered by HOMEBOX Madrid. In this way we do not have to get rid of what we do not use often, but we do not have it at home occupying a very valuable place.
What material do I need?
The material that we propose is cheap and easy to acquire, although in some cases you can find substitutes at home that can do the trick for you. Take note of what you need:
1. Mat or yoga mat
Having a mat is the most basic, because it will make you much more comfortable performing certain exercises. It is important that it is non-slip and not excessively thin. Fundamental in disciplines such as yoga or Pilates, it is also used for resistance exercises such as sit-ups, planks or push-ups, among many others. If you don't have one, you can try placing a folded towel under the support areas during each exercise, although we recommend investing in a mat.
2. Dumbbells and kettlebells
Get dumbbells that are suitable for your exercises to develop and strengthen the muscles of your back, arms and chest. They are small, so they take up little space, and they have many possibilities. To combine different weights, you can opt for the adjustable ones; if not, you have fixed options from 0.5 kg. If you want to check if this type of training is for you before investing in some, you can use water bottles, and if you want to add more weight you can fill them with sand.
Kettlebells or kettlebells, meanwhile, are used to perform deadlift training. They are intended for higher intensity workouts and you can use them to strengthen abs, squats, etc.
3. Bench or chair
It is a very useful auxiliary element for certain exercises, such as normal push-ups, elbow push-ups, steps… And this material is sure to be found at home.
4. Elastic bands
Elastic bands are a simple and inexpensive option to add resistance to exercise. They can be used for almost anything: legs, buttocks, arms, squats ... They are easy to use and the results are very effective. In addition, they take up minimal space. There are different types and some even include anchors.
5. Camber
Getting a jump rope is a very simple way to do cardio to burn more calories and combine with resistance exercise sets. Like elastic bands, they are an inexpensive and easy to store option. By using them, we improve coordination and agility in a fun way. Highly recommended.
6. Chin-up bar
This alternative may not be for those who have just started, but the chin-up bars allow us to strengthen the upper part of the body by working with our own weight. There are non-fixed options that can be easily installed on door frames.
