Top 3 sets of home exercise equipment for $ 0
This is for you if you want to work out at home without spending any money. Here are three great pieces of equipment that you can assemble with spare parts from around the house or pick up for free in your community.
1. Sandbags
Manufactured strongman sandbags range in price from $40 to $90. When you consider what they are, it's not difficult to imagine doing it yourself for less money.
Do you happen to have any old duffel bags lying around? Backpacks you no longer use? These are excellent sandbag substitutes, with natural handles and long-lasting materials. Backpacks are also useful because they allow you to perform a variety of weighted exercises while keeping your hands free (weighted jumps, push-ups, etc.).
If you live near a beach, you can literally make your own'sandbag' for free. Pea gravel, on the other hand, is an excellent low-cost substitute. Simply line your backpack or duffel bag with a high-quality plastic bag or sheet, then fill with as much pea gravel or sand as you like. You can do this in a couple of smaller backpacks or duffel bags for a variety of weights; then, if you want a challenge, combine these in a larger travel bag and you'll have a perfectly good 60lbs+ sandbag for a fraction of the cost.
2. Giant Tyres
The giant tractor tire is another excellent zero-cost option. You've probably seen these at crossfit gyms or in NFL bootcamp videos—they're great for increasing lower-body strength capacity while also working out like a badass.
Most likely, you'll need to take these outside so you have enough room (and don't break anything by throwing a huge tyre through it!). The best part is that, in most cases, you won't have to pay a dime for such a large piece of equipment. A trip to the tire yard is usually enough to find one, and most owners will be happy to let you have it—just make sure you have a way to transport it home.
If you don't have a yard or a strip to flip one of these around in, giant tyres can also be used for Farmer's Walks, which are an excellent way to improve core and forearm strength. Furthermore, having one of these around your home gym setup will instantly add a sense of 'heavy-duty-ness' to the space.
3. Weighted Slosh Pipes
PVC pipe, 5-10 gallons of water, and two caps to keep it closed. That's all it takes to work out your shoulders, upper arms, core, back, and even your lower body.
Alternatives to sandbags that are filled with water are becoming increasingly popular. Because the water is free to slosh around with movement, this equipment allows for a variety of excellent balance and core strength exercises. When held above the head, it's also ideal for improving shoulder stability and engaging your upper back.
Instead of purchasing a manufactured Aquabag, you can achieve the same effect by half-filling a piece of PVC pipe with water and capping each end. Lift it above your head, hold it out in front of you while doing squats or lunges, or twist it from side to side; who knew a piece of pipe filled with water could be such an effective full-body workout?
