Tips for creating a home gym

Most people say that they do not go to the gym due to lack of time. What if we tell you that you can create your gym in your own home, without too much effort and with hardly any money?

As a result of the confinement, it became fashionable to practice sports at home. In addition to helping us stay busy, exercising helped us cope better with not being able to go outside, and even less being able to go to the gym. In fact, several psychological studies have shown that people who trained at home during the pandemic became less depressed than those who did not.

Since then, having a home gym has been in vogue. Not only because we can do sports in our pajamas and at any time of the day, but because we will save time, by not having to travel, and money, since we will not pay any monthly fee. In addition, we will avoid the queues that there are often to access the facilities where we usually train or even to use certain machines.

To create our own home gym, however, we must take into account a number of factors.

Before acquiring any piece to set up our gym in our home, we must carefully analyze what type of sport we want to practice, to buy the necessary material. It is not the same to do, for example, yoga or Pilates, than sessions of cardio, fitness and weights.

To do this, we must inform ourselves well about what exactly we will need to be able to carry out the exercises of each specific discipline.

Create a basic team to train at home

Experts recommend creating a basic equipment with which to train at home, which will be used to carry out all kinds of activities.

For them, mats, weights or dumbbells of all sizes, elastic bands of different stiffness and jump ropes are necessary, which will help us to work almost all parts of the body and that hardly take up space.

Likewise, we must acquire a machine to do cardiovascular exercises, such as a treadmill, an exercise bike or an elliptical. There are thousands of models on the market that adapt to all pockets and every space, since many of them are foldable and, therefore, can be stored in the closet or even under the bed.

Designate a specific home space for your gym

As far as possible, it is advisable to allocate a corner solely and exclusively to exercise. We must try to differentiate it from the rest of the home, since it has to be the place where we will train and where, therefore, we have to feel comfortable and, at the same time, focused.

Whenever possible, this area should be wide enough to be able to move around it comfortably. However, as we pointed out, the machines that take up more space, such as bicycles, ellipticals or treadmills can be foldable, so we can train almost anywhere.

If we do not have enough space we can always go to room dividers, such as screens or shelves.

Create simple workout routines to train at home

In order to be consistent and not give up a few days after starting, the experts advise practicing simple and easy routines to perform. The important thing at the beginning is to challenge yourself to train, even if it is only 20 minutes a day, and gradually increase the time.

With the home equipment that we have created and the proper planning we can achieve the same results as training in a gym. However, to reach our goal and not injure ourselves we must study well how each exercise is done and have the appropriate material, clothing and footwear.

There are thousands of tutorials on the Internet or specialized mobile applications that will help us know how to train and what objectives we can achieve.

If we follow these tips we will be in top shape in a few weeks and without leaving home.
